Glacial Blues

A glacier is a magical thing. A mountain of ice formed over long periods of time because the snow falls so heavily that it can’t melt away in one summer. So it accumulates and gets heaver and more compressed each year and one day a pure ice with no air inside is the result. As the glacier’s weight moves it downhill across the land, it often reaches the ocean and the massive mountains of ice crack and break apart, falling into the water. These freshly broken surfaces reveal beautiful formations of clear ice in a myriad of shades of glacial blues. The rain polished cracks of a glacier are like being inside a giant sapphire. From deep royal blues to jade greens a glaciers color changes with the light. The colors appear only because the clear ice absorbs most colors of light and reflect the glacial blues much to our delight.
